Rework (Jason Fried)

  • be a curator — say no to nonessentials, focus on what’s important, and re-add later if needed
  • snooze Slack, Hangouts, email, etc. for long sessions of focus
  • competition and copiers are bound to happen — make me and my service the discriminator
  • call out shitty competitors; attract followers by being the anti-_
  • default to ‘no’, especially about new features — don’t let a few vocal customers ruin it for all
  • focus on new customers, not bending over backward and complicated things for current ones — the need for simplicity is constant
  • don’t immediately start on new ideas — park for a few days then evaluate with a sound mind
  • focus on building an audience, rather than just sell the produce — blog, social, etc. about relevant topics
  • never hire someone to do something until you’ve tried it yourself — need the understanding
  • you can’t create culture — it’s the byproduct of consistent behavior (action, not words)
